He then earned more popularity being the producer and writer for videos such as “We Let Some Dogs Watch TV And They Were Positively Riveted”. He also became the producer of several BuzzFeed series, including “It’s Personal”. He’s been known to collaborate with numerous other BuzzFeed personalities too, such as Jen Ruggirello and Sara Rubin.

BuzzFeed Unsolved

In 2016, BuzzFeed producer Ryan Bergara started the weekly web series entitled “BuzzFeed Unsolved”, which was initially a part of the “IRL” series before gaining enough popularity to separate on its own. Bergara hosts the show alongside Madej, and the show covers demonic possessions, unusual historical events, haunted places and unsolved crimes. The show does its best to showcase the facts about the events and theories that surround them, often mixing in the dark theme of each topic with comedy from the two hosts. In some episodes, they visit where the unexplained event or the unsolved crime had occurred.

Due to its popularity, the show has started its own YouTube channel called the BuzzFeed Unsolved Network, and “BuzzFeed Unsolved” itself was divided into “True Crime” which covers unsolved crimes, and “Supernatural” which deals with more paranormal mysteries; both series have had a total of seven seasons. One of the key elements of the show is Bergara’s belief in the paranormal and conspiracies, versus Madej’s skepticism. Ryan is known to be a believer in ghosts, aliens and demons, but is skeptical in terms of some creatures such as Bigfoot. Madej on the other hand is skeptical about most of what is presented, except Bigfoot and Aliens!

Popularity, Collaborations, and Spin-offs

Three fan groups were created through the popularity of “BuzzFeed Unsolved”, which include “Boogaras” which are fans similar to Bergara who believe in the paranormal, while there are “Shaniacs” who are skeptics, and also a third group called “Shitfishes” who don’t fall into either category. The terms were coined by the hosts themselves, and their endeavors have led them to some interesting endeavors as well. With their research about the goatman they became the co-owners of the Old Alton Bridge in Texas, now known as “Shane and Ryan’s Bridge”.

On one occasion, “Unsolved” featured “Ancient Aliens” contributor Giorgio Tsoukalos during a discussion about a potential UFO sighting. The popularity of the show also led to a Facebook-based spin-off show entitled “BuzzFeed Unsolved: Sports Conspiracies”, though Madej is not a part of the spin-off. They also created the “Post Mortem” episodes, which mainly answer fans questions about recent episodes, and also shows animated creations by Madej which have grown in popularity over the course of “Unsolved”. Bergara is noted for not being a fan of the series, but still listens to it as a part of the show.

Personal Life

For his personal life, it is known that Shane is in a relationship with fellow BuzzFeed producer Sara Rubin, who has been known to star in numerous BuzzFeed videos, including “Flirting or Not Flirting?” and “How Many of These Awkward Moments Have Happened To You?” Shane resides in Los Angeles, California and similar to numerous BuzzFeed personalities, he remains highly active online through accounts on social media, associated with Instagram and Twitter which he uses to promote comedy content as well as the “BuzzFeed Unsolved” series.
